Cape Town - An American tourist tumbled about 15m down Table Mountain on Wednesday after getting lost.
David Abascal, 24, is in a stable condition in the Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital after members of the Wilderness search-and-rescue and metro emergency services rescued him off the mountain.
The accident happened while he and his girlfriend were hiking.
A hospital spokesperson said Abascal's condition was stable and it is reported his left collarbone and thigh are broken.
Fiona Kalk of Table Mountain National Park said Abascal and his girlfriend got lost on the India window route about 15:00 on Wednesday.
It is a hiking and climbing route between the two cableway stations.
"The man fell between 10m and 15m. His girlfriend called in the metro emergency services."
Netcare 911 members treated him when he was brought down the mountain about 18:00.
