Johannesburg - Three train carriages were set alight in Mlamlankunzi railway station on Wednesday night in Orlando East, Soweto, Johannesburg emergency services said.
"It is a deliberate fire, it was not by accident," spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said.
The carriages were torched while the train was in motion.
Mulaudzi said no one was hurt and fire-fighters managed to extinguish the blaze.
On Tuesday night, three carriages were also set on fire at the Merafe railway station in Soweto.
No injuries were reported as a result.
"The carriages were totally, totally burnt out. It looks like they were set alight."
It appeared that a commuter was responsible for the fire, Mulaudzi said.
