Johannesburg - Metrorail trains came to a standstill on Wednesday afternoon at Park Station in Johannesburg, the rail company said.
Spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng said the disruptions were caused by signal power failures.
"This has affected the movement of all trains to and from Pretoria, Soweto, Tembisa and Vereeniging," she said.
Metrorail and Eskom engineers were working on the problem in the late afternoon, said Mofokeng.
It was not known when the problem would be fixed.
Metrorail apologised for the inconvenience and asked commuters to find alternative transport.
