Train driver murder - suspect appears

2012-10-16 16:36

Johannesburg - A man accused of raping and killing a train driver in Makhado appeared in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, Limpopo police said.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said Manyere Jerry Shuma, 22, was arrested at the weekend for house breaking.

"Further police investigation linked him to the rape and brutal murder of Ms Nare Mashamaite in June this year," he said.

Mashamaite, 47, was raped and strangled at the Makhado station on 4 June when she and her assistant stopped the train to inspect what they thought was brake failure.

Her assistant fled unharmed.

Shuma will be back in court on 22 October for a bail application.
