Johannesburg - Arson is suspected to be the cause of the fire that partially destroyed a Metrorail passenger train in Johannesburg on Thursday night, the company said.
"We suspect foul play and investigations are continuing," said Metrorail spokesperson Lilian Mofokeng.
The fire, which destroyed three coaches, is believed to have started about 19:00. It was discovered by a driver when the train arrived in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
Mofokeng said the train was full but no passengers were injured. The damage to the train is estimated at about R9m.
