Train surfer electrocuted

Durban - A train surfer was electrocuted in Umhlali, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday morning, Metrorail said.

"It was unknown how the man climbed on top of the train. It is believed that he was train surfing. Our protection services were investigating," said Metrorail spokesperson Thandi Mkhize.

She said the train driver noticed that there was a problem with its head wires and checked the top of the train only to find the man already dead.

Mkhize said if he had indeed been surfing, he would be the first train surfer to have died in the province.

"We have had several campaigns where we taught people on train safety," said Mkhize.

Police spokesperson Captain Khephu Ndlovu confirmed that the man was found dead on top of the train on Friday morning.
