LOCAL Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) beneficiaries will receive training in building and construction as part of a skills development programme with the Msunduzi Municipality.

The municipality agreed at a recent executive council meeting to fund the programme for 50 UIF beneficiaries.

The proposed programme by the Department of Labour will see the beneficiaries receive civil and construction training through a learnership programme at NQF Level 3.

Municipal manager Mxolisi Nkosi signed the partnership deal between the Department of Labour, uMgungundlovu Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College and the municipality.

The Skills Development Unit of the municipality will co-ordinate and implement the training programmes and also “build relationships by partnering with other external funding and training institutes”.

Msunduzi will not fund the programme, but will serve as “host employers” aimed at providing workplace experience for the pupils.

“The UIF will set aside R1,8 million for the training and this will be transferred directly to the uMgungundlovu TVET College account,” a council report stated.

The R1,8 million would include monthly stipends of R1 500 to be paid to each pupil
