Trial date set for jailed thief

Tonga - An Mpumalanga man serving 30 years imprisonment for housebreaking and theft will stand trial for other crimes in June.

The convict, Julius Mgono, of Sibayeni village near the Swazi and Mozambican border, appeared briefly in the Boschfontein Regional Court on Friday.

He has pleaded not guilty to five counts of robbery with aggravated circumstances.

"Mgono as you have a new attorney I will remand you in custody until June where your trial will start," said Magistrate Edgar Moletsane.

Mgono was arrested on May 11 2012, following a string of robberies that took place in Langeloop between May 9 and 10 2012.

?He is accused of robbing people of two Nokia cellphones and two tipper trucks worth R1.6m.

He has pleaded has not guilty to five counts of robbery with aggravated circumstances.

In October 2013, Mgono was convicted on two counts of house breaking and theft and sentenced to 30 years imprisonment.

Magistrate Moletsane postponed the case to June 1 for trial to start.
