Johannesburg - Three men have been arrested after two women were caught in the crossfire of a shooting allegedly by taxi bosses in Midrand, Gauteng police said on Friday.

"They are aged between 50 and 65, and will appear in the Alexandra Magistrate's Court on Monday," said Captain Augustinah Selepe.

"They will face charges of murder and attempted murder. At this stage we can't confirm if they are taxi owners."

On Thursday, a car passed the corner of the K101 and Le Roux roads in Midrand where a shoot-out was in progress.

A 39-year-old passenger in the car was hit in the head by a stray bullet and the driver was hit in the right arm.

The passenger died on the scene and the driver was taken to hospital.

"A group of taxi owners in their private vehicles were shooting at each other. We have not confirmed this. We suspect it," Selepe said at the time.

The taxi groups drove away after the incident.
