Truck crushes man in car

Bloemfontein - A 40-year-old man was killed after a head-on collision on the N8 near Ladybrand on Saturday evening, Free State paramedics said.
The man was driving a VW Polo that collided shortly after 19:00 with a truck returning to Bloemfontein after dropping off its cargo in Lesotho, said ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson in a statement.
The accident happened about 15km outside Ladybrand at Hobhouse crossing.
"Once the paramedics arrived on scene, they found a VW Polo to have been so badly crushed in from the driver's side from the impact with the truck, that the width of the vehicle was reduced to less than half of what it had been," Jackson said.
The man died on the scene.
The damage to the driver side was so severe, emergency workers had to use the jaws of life on the passenger side door to remove the man's remains.
The driver of the truck was not injured in the accident.
