Truck set alight on N3 highway

2012-05-31 08:02

Johannesburg - A truck was set alight on the N3 at the Pelser bridge following unrest in the Somalia informal settlement near Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Thursday.

The R103 between Barry Marais and Pelser Roads was barricaded by a burning Toyota Tazz, foreign objects and burning tyres on Wednesday night, Inspector Kobeli Mokheseng said.

"[A man] alleges that, as he was travelling on the N3 freeway direction south by the Pelser Bridge, he slowed down and came to a halt, due to burning tyres and loose stones barricading the freeway.

"As he [got out of] his truck, he was greeted by flying objects before he abandoned his vehicle and ran for his life," said Mokheseng.

The truck was set alight by unknown people and goods valued at R300 000 were damaged.

As police were trying to clear the scene they heard gun shots from the informal settlement, said Mokheseng.

The N3 towards Durban was partially closed.

Okay can someone please tell me why there are certain words that have bracketed? Whats the purpose of that? Are they NOT sure if it was truck he got out of?? Just asking?

      Benji The'Rocker Krieger - 2012-05-31 08:42

i asked myself the same question...

      Jaco - 2012-05-31 09:06

The brackets are quite strange, I suppose they placed those words in brackets because they weren't exactly sure of their facts..like the "(got out of)" maybe he was thrown out, or he flew out...and the words (a man), maybe it was a woman or a transvestite...who knows

square brackets [ ] are used by editors to indicate words that were left out and need to be inserted to make the sentence gramitically correct. If they want to keep it exactly as intended then they put [sic] at the end, that means the editor knows its incorrect but keeping the quote accurate.

      Merven - 2012-05-31 09:56

But when you point out the destructive nature, you are labeled as a racist.

Zulu king gets R 60 Million a year from govt (our tax money). His "people" burn hard working peoples' trucks and try and kill them because they're upset with the government. Ok ,is that fat cat king going to sort this out now ??? Is he going to replace the truck and lead these hooligans to better behaviour? NOOOOO,, hes having his caviar and probably says,,its the governments problem. P**isses me off. How do we even think RSA will ever get to be something other than just another third world country self destructing cause people in power JUST DONT CARE about anything other than lining their own pockets in the name of "pre-94's fault"

There is such a big surprise in for the ANC. Just remember...the 9 million foreigners ALSO want services and they will ALSO protest. Only difference between them and the average SA protestor is that they come from countries where bullets and violence are everyday occurances. God bless this country the day the foreigners get a political leader...it will be THE END OF THE ANC.

We need more jails in our country, less criminals among us.

      Rupert - 2012-05-31 12:25

no deon you dont need more jails in this country , all you need is to educate the people, once someone is educated there is less time to think of crime .South africans have to learn to work and stop relying on the government for handouts
