Tshwane announces water curbs

Pretoria - The Tshwane metro has announced temporary water restrictions in a bid to avoid shortages because of ongoing repairs at the Roodeplaat Water Treatment Works.
The restrictions applied to the Daspoort, Suiderberg, Wonderboom Suid, Gezina, Montana, Garsfontein and Lynnwood areas, spokesperson Dikeledi Phiri said on Wednesday.
"Due to the repairs... the water supply to these areas is now [being] supplied via other sources and reservoirs. Water therefore needs to be used sparingly."
Phiri said residents with even street numbers were allowed to water their gardens on even dates from 06:00 to 08:00 and from 18:00 to 22:00.
Those with odd street numbers were to water their gardens on odd dates, during the same time periods.
"These restrictions will be enforced with immediate effect until further notice. A spot fine of R5 000 per incident can be issued if the... water restrictions are transgressed," Phiri said.
