Johannesburg - A manhunt was launched on Friday for five people who bombed two ATMs in Helen Joseph's Drive, Rustenburg, North West police said.

Spokesperson Amanda Funani said: "It is alleged that the thugs were wearing balaclavas when they approached two [security guards], confronted them and took their firearms."

They then detonated explosives which blew up a First National Bank ATM and an Absa ATM.

As the men tried to flee, police arrived and a shoot-out ensued.

Funani said no police officers were wounded and it was not known if the suspects sustained injuries.

The men fled the scene in a black Audi A4 with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Can somebody please explain to me, in this day and age, why banks are allowing these bastards to get away with all the money by bombing ATM's, when all they have to do is have huge plastic bags filled with indelible dye which explode with the ATM's and render all the notes unusable. SIMPLE, EASY, FAST AND EFFICEIENT!!!
