Uitenhage - Two men were arrested on Tuesday for the murder of a 71-year-old Kirkwood man who was searching for plants in Aqua Park, police said.

Warrant Officer Gerda Swart said the men, aged between 24 and 37, were arrested with the help of community members early on Tuesday morning.

John Radford, 71, went out with two helpers to the bushes at Aqua Park near Kirkwood to search for plants on Monday afternoon.

Apparently two men overpowered him and hit him over the head with a stone.

Swart said police found that two people also broke into Radford’s home, took electrical appliances and fled.

She said the two men would appear in the Kirkwood Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges ranging from murder to housebreaking and theft.
