Johannesburg - An off-duty police officer arrested two men after an armed robbery in Duduza, east of Johannesburg, on Wednesday.

"One of our off-duty members was alerted by the community, in which he stays, of a shop where an armed robbery was committed early this morning," said Warrant Officer Imtiaz Yakub Rasool.

"He arrived at the identified residence and found two men inside."

One of them shot at the officer. He returned fire, hitting the man in the right arm. The officer was not injured.

The two men stole cash, cellphones, airtime and cigarettes worth R3 000, Rasool said.

They were expected to appear in the Nigel Regional Court soon.
