Durban - Two men were arrested for allegedly killing a National Freedom Party induna (headman), KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.

The two, aged 25 and 35, were arrested on Friday in the Vryheid area, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

Mpipiza Mncube, 79, a local induna of Ngome, near Vryheid, was killed when he went to look after his grazing cattle last Monday.

"His family became concerned when he did not return and decided to look for him."

Mncube was found with a gunshot wound to his head. The motive for the killing was not immediately clear.

The two were expected to appear in the Louwsburg Magistrate's Court on Monday afternoon.

NFP provincial secretary Vusimuzi Khoza welcomed the arrests.

"We hope the matter will be investigated speedily and go to trial so we can find out the motive for the murder. We want to know where the idea of killing our leaders comes from," Khoza said.

NFP chairperson Jacky Nhlebela was shot dead in a drive-by shooting on July 6. He was in his car on his way to collect firewood with his two children when he was attacked by men in a red car on the Nquthu main road, a few kilometres from Dundee.

Four people were arrested in connection with this murder. The motive for it was also not known yet.
