Johannesburg - Two policemen were shot and injured by men who allegedly robbed a pension pay-point at a village between Nkumbi and Mount Frere in the Eastern Cape on Friday, police said.
Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela said about ten men, dressed in uniforms resembling those used by the SA National Defence Force, allegedly robbed the pay-point.
They then shot at police who pursued them.
They injured two policemen and then took their vehicle - a police van - and fled the scene.
The two injured policemen were taken to hospital, Fatyela said.
The van has since been located in a nearby forest.
Another vehicle the men were using to get away has also been found.
Police helicopters were patrolling the area and Fatyela said it was a matter of time before the men would be caught.
The area was muddy due to heavy rainfall, making it difficult for police to pursue the men on foot.
