Two die in Durban car crash

2012-08-25 14:45

Johannesburg - Two people were killed in a head-on collision car on the N2 highway near the Natal Portland Cement factory in Durban on Saturday, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said the accident happened when the driver of an Opel Corsa bakkie lost control of his vehicle.

"The vehicle crashed through the centre median of the freeway colliding head on with a BMW convertible that was travelling north bound on the N2," she said.

The vehicle then veered out of control and side swiped a heavy duty truck.

Jackson said two occupants of the bakkie were so badly entrapped in the wreckage that they had died before paramedics arrived on the scene.

"They were barely visible in the wreckage and rescuers needed to cut their remains free by using the jaws-of-life," she said.

The occupants of the BMW, a man and a woman were only treated for minor injuries and transported to a hospital.

No one in the truck was injured.

"Two people were killed in a head-on collision car on the N2 highway near the Natal Portland Cement factory in Durban, paramedics say." What the hell has N24 on duty this weekend?

Glad I'm not the only one who saw that... Apart from lack of proof-reading, we drove past this accident today. The one vehicle looked as though it had been compacted for a scrap metal yard, which was pretty horrible to see.
