TWO men were arrested by members of CAT on Sunday for the murder of Michael Thomas. They were trying to flee the city.

The Witness reported last week that police arrested five men connected with the murder of Thomas (24), a Copesville man who was stabbed to death for his shoes while on his way home two weeks ago.

The five men were taken in for questioning and it was found that although they were in the same criminal gang as Thomas’s killers, they were not responsible for his murder.

Since the arrest of the five suspects last week, members of the Combined Action Team (CAT) have been working tirelessly to track the suspects directly involved in the murder.

There was a breakthrough on Sunday afternoon when the alleged killers were tracked and arrested on Chota Motala Drive outside the Northway Mall at about 2 pm.

The two men were travelling in a bakkie filled with their belongings, which included clothing stained with blood, when CAT members pounced.

Sources close to the investigation said the men knew police were hot on their heels and were on their way out of the city.

Speaking to The Witness yesterday, Thomas’s mother Melissa said she is relieved that the men have been apprehended.

“I forgive them for what they have done, but I am happy that they have been arrested and can’t hurt another innocent life,” she said.

“I don’t have the words to express how I feel right now, he was my everything. I left it all in the hands of God and with the support of family and prayer, I managed to face every day.”

Michael Thomas, also known as Jody, was stabbed as he and a friend returned home to Copesville after running an errand in Raisethorpe on Friday, June 5
