Johannesburg - Two people were injured when a train hit the car in which they were travelling at a level crossing in Pietermaritzburg on Friday, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said paramedics arrived on the scene to find the wreckage of the car about 70m from the point of collision at the Dumbuza level crossing.

"They were told by locals that they had pulled the two injured occupants from the car...and rushed them to an unknown medical facility," he said.
