Johannesburg - Two men were killed within the space of five hours in separate accidents in Butterworth, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.

A man was killed when he was hit by a car on the N2 near Walter Sisulu University around 20:30 on Tuesday, said Captain Jackson Manatha.

Police believe the man was 26-years-old, but they were unable to identify him.

"A case of culpable homicide has been opened against the driver," said Manatha.

Another 26-year-old man was killed when he was hit by a truck near the Zizamele informal settlement around 16:00.

"The deceased is known, but his name is being withheld until his family members are informed of his death."

The driver of the truck did not stop and police were looking for him.

"A case of culpable homicide and failing to stop after an accident have been opened," said Manatha.
