Durban - A security guard was killed in a cash-in-transit heist in Brooklyn in the Western Cape on Wednesday morning.

Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said that the shooting occurred at a shop in Koeberg Road shortly after 8:00.

"According to the information at our disposal, a security guard was filling the ATM inside a shop when he was shot. The 41-year-old man later died in hospital due to his injuries," she said.

"Three suspects fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. No one has been arrested at this stage."

In another incident on Tuesday night, a shopkeeper was shot and killed in an apparent robbery at Idada Street, Site-C, Khayelitsha.

"According to the reports police attended a murder incident at the address. They found two Somali victims with gunshot wounds," she said.

"A 28-year-old man was declared dead on the scene. Cases of murder and attempted murder are being investigated."
