Port Elizabeth - Two men have been killed in yet another shooting in the northern areas of Nelson Mandela Bay.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson Alwin Labans said a man wearing a balaclava fired several shots at a 48-year-old man in Kobus Road, Helenvale, at around 14:30 on Friday.

The man, identified as taxi owner Graham Slabbert, was hit multiple times and died at the scene.

Labans said 20-year-old Sherwin Cohen, who was standing at a street corner nearby talking to some friends at the time, was also shot in the chest.

"Sherwin ran to his house nearby, after being shot, and collapsed in the lounge where he died from his wound," he said.

Labans said the shooting was not gang-related and the suspect is still at large.

On Friday morning, a 31-year old man was wounded in a gang-related shooting in the same area.

Labans said the man was approached by two men believed to be members of a rival gang and five shots were fired.

He said the man was hit twice in the buttocks, and admitted to hospital in a stable condition.

No-one was arrested in that incident either.

This brings the number of people shot dead in Helenvale this week to three after 33-year-old Clayton Human, was shot and killed inside his house on Reginald Road on Monday.

Labans said police were still investigating the murder of Human and were looking into the possibility that his murder was gang related.
