Pretoria - The murder of two unidentified men, who were found just outside Bronkhorstspruit, east of Pretoria, on Sunday morning, could be described as a scene from a mafia film.
The bodies of the men were found on an open stretch of land alongside the Bapsfontein road, just outside the town.
The police suspect that they were executed.
The two bodies were found after an old Mercedes-Benz, which stood deserted along the side of the road, caught the attention of a passer-by.
Police spokesperson Sanet Lourens, said: "We found bullet casings in the back of the car, so it seems as if they were shot from behind by someone in the vehicle."
Blood trail
The Bronkhorstspruit police were called to the scene when a passer-by noticed the abandoned vehicle.
"A jogger saw blood next to the road and just further on he spotted the Mercedes.
"He immediately phoned the police."
When the police arrived, they followed a blood trail which led them into the field.
"The one man was shot twice in the chest and once in the head. The other man was shot once only in the chest.
"Since we found four casings in the back of the car, we suspect the men were shot by a third passenger, who was probably sitting on the back seat.
"It could have been someone the men knew."
