Two of 'Waterkloof 4' to be released

2011-12-15 13:23

Johannesburg - Two of the "Waterkloof Four" will be released on parole on Thursday afternoon, a family member said.

"The parole board of the jail appointed the court to let them go," said Jimmy Stonehouse, the stepfather of Gert van Schalkwyk.

He said the family was informed of the decision on Thursday morning.

Van Schalkwyk and Reinach Tiedt will be released from Zonderwater Prison on Thursday afternoon, under strict conditions.

Correctional services officials were not immediately in a position to confirm this.

Tiedt and Van Schalkwyk were among a group of four boys convicted of killing a homeless man in a park in Pretoria in 2001.

dont let the killers to be on our streets again...correctional service is corrupt

      Grant - 2011-12-15 13:55

I don't know the four but the state put these guys in jail with no proof??? Maybe we should lock up one of your family without proof. Will that be justice? Then you will change your opinion hey?

      Hallo - 2011-12-15 15:12

These kids deserve to be beaten to a pulp like they did to the helpless homeless man.

      JustMe - 2011-12-15 15:50

See, this "Hallo" guy... there's a good example of a troll. Create a fake facebook profile so that he can "p" people off by making anonymous comments. Backbone of a jellyfish :-)

      Hallo - 2011-12-15 15:56

      @JustMe - Truth hurts.

      JustMe - 2011-12-15 16:32

this ridiculous, this country is a joke!

      Johan - 2011-12-15 13:57

Wrongfully convicted! 3 Years too long! Google "Waterkloof 4"

      Tertius Coetzer - 2011-12-15 14:07

i followed the story closely, they are definitely guilty and the fact that no remorse were shown during the trial should have meant 15 extra years! I'm just happy its not Christof Becker getting the parole!

      Tertius Coetzer - 2011-12-15 14:07

      yummyhamster - 2011-12-15 15:03

Johan - it sounds like one of their friends.Weather they killed a man or just assaulted a man , the fact remains that they committed a crime and they did it because they are kids from wealthy family's who think they can do anything and get away with it. There may have been some irregularities regarding what really happened. Johan it would seem that you are one of those guys who wants rich brats to do what they want while only the poor are held accountable for their crimes. Meaning you should go into politics..

      Randomhero6661 - 2011-12-15 15:32

      Obvious troll is obvious!!!

      Dante - 2011-12-16 01:26

tertius.where did you follow this story closely?in the newspaper?or on the computer reading news24?these kids never killed anybody.dont worry christoff bekker will get parole as well.

  • Shaun - 2011-12-15 13:34

They were only sentenced in 2006. What a shame.

  • Kevin - 2011-12-15 13:34

How old were these guys when they committed this crime? Were they sentenced as minors or as adults? I'm assuming minors get different punishment.

  • Shirley - 2011-12-15 13:36

At least they got it legally and didnt feign illness! However I think its too soon but with the courts sentencing record of late this does not surprise me!

      Johan - 2011-12-15 13:58

      Wrongfully convicted through corrupt courts...

      Randomhero6661 - 2011-12-15 15:34

  • Missionman - 2011-12-15 13:51

This is just proof that a life in this country carries little or no value. Wonder what the parol conditions are?

      Grant - 2011-12-15 14:03

@Paul - - listen carefully pal, when you p1ss off to the lands of your forefathers, then and only then, I'll p1ss off to the land of mine! My great great great grandparents came to Southern Africa just as yours did!

      Missionman - 2011-12-15 14:22

Paul you seem to have more than a chip on your shoulder - get a life or something.........

      Grant - 2011-12-15 14:23

@Paul. Gratified to see that you realise I was being derogatory!!!!! Incidentally, I no more referred to race than you have in all of your posts to date. You certainly seem to be a well balanced commie racist, chips on both shoulders!

      Paul - 2011-12-15 14:35

Grant don't always believe those things 'mommy' told you.

      Paul - 2011-12-15 14:39

StarStruck I am in NB not Jozi.

      yummyhamster - 2011-12-15 15:20

Paul - how on earth is "pal" a racist derogatory statement. you are thinking with all your brain cells on that one arnt you ? Europeans are white. there isnt one country where they are not.so yea you made it a thing about skin color by using the specific word Europeans.so you made it a racist thing. So the next time a person of a different color says to me "hey BRA" i will accuse them of being racist because as to your reasoning they are using a racist and derogatory statement. People like you love to come onto places here and leave comments to try and start arguments. but your limit knowledge and education is leaving you looking like a infant who has just discovered his dadys laptop and pretty lacking in the general knowledge department. So what are you Paul? Zulu , Tswana ?then do some research as to where your ancestors came from on this continent. Oh wait there is the light bulb now.. you are also not from here.

  • Christian - 2011-12-15 13:57

Murder is murder is murder, whether you are black or white, young or old, sick or healthy, fat or slim!!!!!!! Dont tell me their parents did not teach them right from wrong. And justice should be equal through the field.

      Johan - 2011-12-15 14:00

      Wronfully convicted!!!

      Randomhero6661 - 2011-12-15 15:34

Yup johan you know...wait for it OBVIOUS TROLL IS OBVIOUS ONCE AGAIN!!!

  • Archie - 2011-12-15 14:05

In their case the law prevailed and they did 10 years,so what about Boesak/selebi/Yengeni/Cwele/Shaiky/Cele/Maharaj/Ru Shabangu/travel gate/Armsgate and all the 2500 civil servants in known corruption cases that still walk free?

      Blade - 2011-12-15 14:24

And Zuma who had hundreds of fraud charges overturned.

  • Sharon - 2011-12-15 14:07

They must still sit .......no parole for them....they did the crime now do the time

      Randomhero6661 - 2011-12-15 15:49

Do the crime you gotta do the time and now these guys are getting out, what is fair about this one????????

  • foxiloxi - 2011-12-15 14:47

YOU CERTAINLY CAN GET AWAY WITH MURDER IN THIS COUNTRY!!!

      jowza1 - 2011-12-15 15:20

DO YOU?I THOUGHT THEY GOT CONVICTED

  • Trevor - 2011-12-15 14:50

No proper justice in this country kill some one u get a smack on the wrist get caugt for drugs u get 20 years go figure

  • Jos - 2011-12-15 14:51

Please have confidence in the justice system. Outside the justice system is kangaroo courts(where prejudice live). Have confidence in the parole board, at least it is still governed by the constitution (no matter how obscured). If it was in china, these boys would be having tombstones. Have confidence in your leaders irrespective of your political preferance, outside the law is scary...

  • Leendert - 2011-12-15 15:21

Don't know the circumstances but get this nasty feeling that the 'rich' kiddies will walk around as 'heroes' after their release. Do not get the feeling of any remorse whatsoever. Unlike the guy in The Sun yesterday who showed so much remorse, until the judge cut his sentence and then started boasting about it on Facebook...

  • Refiloe - 2011-12-15 15:22

They have learnt their lesson, hope they will be better persons once they are back. One day in prison is enough to feel it. Hope they do not wish to go find themselves there again.

  • Refiloe - 2011-12-15 15:33

I agree with Tertius, I followed the story so well. They are guilty and their parents did what could take to ensure that they do not go to jail but unfortunately the case was too strong to let them off the hook. Johan is stressing unnecessary, the boys have now learnt to respect people irregardless - they have learnt something their parents never taught them. Money of nie money respect is respect and the law is the law.

  • T - 2011-12-15 15:40

Being white must rock, i’ve know kids and i mean kids convicted for involuntary manslaughter and had to do the whole bid, These Europeans just skate on cold blooded Murder.

      Blade - 2011-12-15 16:39

Whites have to contend with a huge amount of hatred, violence and theft from blacks every day in this country. How would you like to be one of the THOUSANDS of farmers that have been slaughtered? Still though, I am very glad that I am fortunate enough to be white. Even though its tough being surrounded by people like you.

      Theunis Pretorius - 2011-12-16 07:41

Couple of things mate: 1) Shabir and Selebi aint white. 2) This is a legal process. Nothing to do with race. How many blacks were released with them? 3) On Saturday night a family in Pretoria was gunned down by 4 black guys. The mom has brain damage, the dad is critical and the son died. Cold blooded murder is not limited to the 4 white kids who got what they deserved. 4) You are a racist - being white is not the same as being European. They were born here, just like you. 5) You say you know kidS who have been convicted of serious crimes - may I suggest you choose better company.

  • Spartacus - 2011-12-15 17:15

It could have been a gross misjudgement of any kid fuelled with drink, spurred on by peer pressure and racial prejudices : read "The Lucifer Effect" and then tell me you can talk from a high moral ground ... they've done their time so get your self-righteous arses off your high horses and be more outraged and vocal about the R400 million that your goverment is intending to spend on its centenary parteeeeee ...

  • Seja - 2011-12-15 17:39

...Imagine if murder was punishable by death in SA ...these boyz would be toast!!

  • Dante - 2011-12-16 01:15

what these kids did that night had to be punished but was blown completely out of proportion and they didnt have a fair trial at the end.please dont be blinded by what you get fed by the media

      Ritha Els Hall - 2011-12-16 12:17

      I agree

  • eradingoana - 2011-12-16 11:04

Every sentence would be done completely by those who don't have contacts. Shaik is today the gold player and Selebi will obviously be taken to his grave because he does not have connections. Shaik 's properties should have been attached but because instructions are from Pretoria not to do it, he is enjoying his mansion and money from crime.
