2011-12-17 20:04

Johannesburg - Two men survived after their helicopter crashed into a veld near Ventersdorp on Saturday, paramedics said.

The men were treated for superficial wounds and bruises, Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said.

He said paramedics arrived at the scene to find the damaged helicopter in the veld after the pilot affected an emergency landing.

Both men were taken to a private medical facility in Klerksdorp for further treatment.

does anyone have anymore info on this story?

I am affected by the grammar error after the pilot effected an emergency landing.

      Stirer - 2011-12-18 08:40

Absolutely right, Graham. I am appalled at the atrocious spelling and grammar in general, and the poor quality of journalism and editing. They used to tell us to read newspapers to learn to spell and to learn to express ourselves. Even in every day speak, slang and Americanisms creep in and become the norm.

@stirer please pray tell how would you have worded "the pilot effected an emergency landing." That dear sir is the correct terminology, sorry we are not all as clever and well spoken as you are. We bow to your superior knowledge.

      Johan - 2011-12-18 09:44

The pilot affected is correct not effected!

      graham.christensen1 - 2011-12-18 16:19

Johan, that you can't tell the difference in the meaning of the words qualifies you for a job at SAPA or News24.

Sorry that comment was leveled @graham.christensen1 and if the two of you want to know more about the crash why don't you log on to a site like rotowing they normally cover all aviation mishaps in S A aviation

      Stirer - 2011-12-18 12:47

Cathandra, Graham and I were both saying the same thing. Effecting a landing is correct. The debate was about the misuse of the word "affected", and not about the emergency landing.

Thank you Stirer! Thought it was pretty obvious. Sarcasm sometimes flies over the heads...
