Tyre burst kills 3 in family

Bloemfontein - Three members of a Pietermaritzburg family died instantly and three were seriously injured in an accident on the N1 near Edenburg, say southern Free State police.

Captain Ernest Mayiki said the accident happened late on Thursday night. A tyre apparently burst on a Toyota Cressida, in which the family was travelling, the driver lost control and the car overturned.

The family were on their way from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg.

Three children between the ages of five and 14 years had serious head injuries. They were admitted to a hospital in Bloemfontein.

The names of the injured and the dead were expected to be released later on Friday.
