Nelspruit - Four men arrested in connection with the rape of British tourist Julie Stevens in Mpumalanga last year have been denied bail by a Nelspruit regional court magistrate, reports SABC radio news.
Sipho Mbokane, Michael Dube, Eric Msibi and Willy Ngwenya appeared briefly in Nelspruit regional court and their case was postponed to March 4 for further investigation.
They allegedly abducted Stevens and her South African friend, Thinus Opperman, at a viewsite on the scenic Long Tom Pass.
They allegedly drove them around for 14 hours and raped Stevens at least twice. The four men also allegedly killed a Mozambican motorist, Domingo Chambal who stopped to give assistance when the hijacked vehicle overturned.
