Johannesburg - A woman accused of murdering United States of America consulate worker Christopher Norman Bates told the South Gauteng High Court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrates' Court she killed him in self defence, The Star reported on Thursday.

Lorraine Mogapi reportedly said that Bates "went psycho" on her. The paper reported that two witnesses contradicted Mogapi's claims.

According to Mogapi, who admitted to being a prostitute, the pair went to Bates's house and had sex.

An argument ensued when he allegedly refused to pay the agreed R200 and said she was not worth the price.

In the heat of the argument, Bates was said to have fetched a knife from the kitchen and Mogapi pepper sprayed him.

She said she managed to escape the house but Bates chased her with a baseball bat. She then reportedly stabbed him.

The newspaper reported that the two witnesses said they saw Bates walking in front of Mogapi and then heard the sound of a person falling down. The trial continues.
