US farm manager attacked with pangas

2012-08-14 12:00

Bloemfontein - An American farm manager has been hacked with pangas in an attack on a farm in the Ladybrand district, Volksblad newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Allen Rodgers, 61, was taken to the Mediclinic hospital in Bloemfontein by ambulance with lacerations and stab wounds after the attack on the farm Geluk on Monday night.

According to the newspaper, his assailants waited for him in the farmhouse, where they had tied up a female friend of his.

Free State Agriculture district representative Bernard Maree said the attackers apparently stole cash and cellphones.

Police and soldiers along the borderline with Lesotho searched for the men until late on Monday night.

It was believed the attack could be linked to recent job losses on the farm, the newspaper reported.

      JohhnyBGood - 2012-08-14 16:30

He does not give a rats-hole. Not about you, me, nor 99% of the others. As long he is milking all is well.

Alicia what do Zuma or Desmond Tutu care?the latter whom is calling for an axing of a foreign tv show, (all while this happens). So much for American investment!!!

      amanda.victor.92 - 2012-08-15 11:40

@Oom Koos - this is Zuma's plan. Working beautifully.

...another racist farm attack...! ...when will ANC do something about these racist attacks..??

      tc.convulvulous - 2012-08-14 12:14

I you wait on the ANC you will wait forever! Waiting for something to change is pathetic!

      dave.lester.125 - 2012-08-14 12:15

Never. See my comment below. I hate violence, but there will be no other option.

      mantothieve.missingman - 2012-08-14 13:18

They wont they love it , Every time this happens they use the tax money of the farmer murdered to throw a party

      toria.dae - 2012-08-14 18:18

A brutal description of what is happening - when you don't see you it don't really feel it and so we continue to be so fiercely "proud" of our country. What exactly is there to be proud of? http://digitaljournal.com/article/326049

      gail.rieck.9 - 2012-08-15 09:11

NEVER!!! The anc is not in the least bit interested in curbing crime especially when it comes to farm attacks. They want all the farms and this is one way of them getting them without compensation. Let the rest of the world see what we're up against, let the overseas investors pull out.

  • ruan.nielsen.3 - 2012-08-14 12:23

TWO WOMAN SHOT AND KILLED SENSELESLY IN THREE DAYS FOR NO REASON OUTSIDE THEIR FARMS AN DNOW AN AMERICAN OVER A SUPPOSED JOB LOSS,I DONT THINK SO,LETS SEE IF THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY RAISES AN EYELID NOW THAT AN AMERICAN HAS BEEN ATTACKED IN OUR LATEST TRIO OF GENOCIDE,IS IT MY IMAGINATION OR ARE THINGS STARTING TO ESCULATE,IT IS NOW TIME FOR EVERYONE TO ARM THEMSELVES AS I SMELL A CIVIL WAR BREWING.

      bless.boswell - 2012-08-14 12:32

I think everyone should acquaint themselves with the gun laws in this country, before it's too late.

      susanna.smit.7 - 2012-08-14 13:34

At Sanda.mnyazi; Genocide tends to get international coverage. Hutus and Tutsis or the Nazis and Jews or the Racist blacks and white Afrikaners....I come from a farm and I am a boeremeisie, but to my knowledge my parents or grandparents never killed people from other races because of genetic and cultural differences.

      Victoria - 2012-08-14 13:38

sanda.mnyazi reading will get you very far. Do yourself a favour and Google crime in South Africa and then Google international newspapers - i think that you are in for a nasty surprise...

      gail.hayesbean - 2012-08-15 09:40

@susanna. I think that you are mistaken in imagining for a moment that these killings are about genetics or cultural issues. They are about land and survival of the fittest. When you have nothing yourself and there are no jobs LIFE itself be it yours or someone else's becomes meaningless. Factor into this that the people doing the killing have been brainwashed by the ANC into believing our ancestors stole their land and that creates a volatile situation. These criminals imagine they are taking what is rightfully theirs and extracting vengeance for the fact that they can't earn a living off the land. They really do not realise that when all the commercial farmers are gone and they have the land but no skills to farm it they will also die. They will die of starvation or they will kill each other to survive. I take a curious satisfaction from knowing that while I may be tortured. raped and then murdered or die as a result because I am over 60 their turn will come around. Karma is a bitch.

  • kobus.hattingh.5 - 2012-08-14 12:34

Wonder whom will they attack if the farmers decide to leave their farms and there is no food to feed the people with anymore?

      oom.koos.7 - 2012-08-14 17:09

I dont think you will need to wait very long...we are all very GATVOL already..!!

      tc.convulvulous - 2012-08-14 17:30

oom Koos, being gatvol means nothing. They will come to get you eventually! Sitting back and waiting your turn is senseless, stupid. The most stupid thing to do is 'doing nothing' and hoping things will change - it will not, not with the ANC behind it. Who is next?

      oom.koos.7 - 2012-08-15 13:07

tc.convulvulous - I know that you are correct, but WHAT CAN WE DO...???

  • gordon.sims.180 - 2012-08-14 12:36

....... and the picture with the story has the following caption - "Earthworms from France have been found as far north as farms in Ireland." What the hell has THAT got to do with the story - Yet another inexcusable News24 Faux Pax !!!!!!!!

      gordon.sims.180 - 2012-08-14 17:00

Well at least somebody at News24 is reading as they have now removed the caption to the picture !!!

      gail.hayesbean - 2012-08-15 09:43

Gordon, what picture did you expect them to put up then? One of the American farmer all wounded and bleeding? Be realistic. Not every story on here has an appropriate photograph to go with it.

      gordon.sims.180 - 2012-08-15 10:57

@ Gail - if you would have read my comment correctly you would have seen that it was not about the picture but the CAPTION which had a comment ORIGINALLY - which News 24 promptly removed above "Earthworms from France" !!!!!

  • sekwati.robinson - 2012-08-14 12:37

terrible...I'm happy he's alive, damn crazy evil dogs who did this need to be found and fed poison..we need to unit and deliver mob justice to these demons...by the rate farmers are killed and attacked we'll soon be importing most agricultural products...

      zaks2217 - 2012-08-14 16:19

That's right must take them and hang them. U can't have these people in society.

  • richard.zanner - 2012-08-14 13:15

We can see farms are a huge target and can only wonder what is being done about it or is there some silent condonation to allow this to scare the farmers away without legal process. It will not be the first time that the ANC deal with things underhandedly. One never sees any report saying that the ANC are putting special precautions in place to protect farmers and from the History of Zimbabwe I can only wonder how much the ANC actually wants to protect the farmers.

  • shellerjc.rjc - 2012-08-14 13:45

damn!!!!! this makes how many attacks on people on farms in the last week?? Makes me think of Zim - Take a farm - kill the farmer Oh brother -

  • nicolelovelock - 2012-08-14 13:53

now that they have attacked a foreign citizen hopefully it will get some attention. I am sure the US embassy won't let this slide

      zaks2217 - 2012-08-14 16:15

Unless there is oil under those farms america dnt give a crap

      gail.hayesbean - 2012-08-15 09:48

If you post on Facebook and have friends in America then like this particular post so that they can see it and spread the word. You see it isn't simply South African whites on farms - I would say that in this instance the motive was robbery pure and simple with a bit of brutality thrown in for good measure and the fact that some workers were let go recently may show that this was also punishment of some sort.

avatar Hermann - Just posted Report commentComments Policy I was the fourth to comment on this item this morning and had a few reactions. Now I see by some mysterious coincidence my comment is missing - N24 censorship? YES. a resounding YES!!! As my comment is also reflected on Facebook I may as well repost: I wonder if our Islam community will also launch an outcry about this incident as they have done in the case of the Kazi incident in Magaliesburg. and thus challenge the anti-freedom of expression within N24 again.

  • amelia.basson - 2012-08-14 15:59

Media24 is not doing unbiased reporting! They blatantly mention race when the victims are black. BUT … when the perpetrators are black, they hide their race behind words like “assailants” & “attackers” (see above). They also provide excuses for such attacks - in this case “job losses” (see above), when they know the real reason is the cANCer song “kill the boer” www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fzRSE_p1Ys Heaven forbid we all kill our bosses when we lose our jobs?

      audrey.lang.10 - 2012-08-14 17:40

Yes, I agree. And I read somewhere that apparently when a white person kills a black person, it's considered more newsworthy. Which just means that it doesn't happen often, that's why it's newsworthy.

  • fairness.iseverything - 2012-08-14 17:45

This is the plan it seems, like everything else with the current government there is a plan behind the plan. I say, for every civilian murder farmer or not a government employee shot be shot in the knee (not killed). It will take week if so long and we will have their attention. Violence seems to be the only thing they respond to? Look at it from a distance and you will agree that if they aren't violent themselves they are responding to someone else's violence. They (government) aren't dumb, they act like it and are pretty good at I must say. There is a reason behind the school book saga and there is a reason why they aren't acknowledging the genocide in our townships and farms. Its benn in our faces for so long that some of us just accept it nowadays. 1 knee-cap for every ... The country will run short in crutches in no time and only then they will do something about it. Sad to admit to it but it seems as the only solution before everything turns to rubble

  • amelia.basson - 2012-08-14 18:25

This is the 2nd time Americans have been attacked in farm murders. The 1st time was when Americans were attacked on a hunting farm. Both these times police suddenly did their job - normally they don't give a damn! Media24 mentions job losses as motivation, when we all know the ANC goverment sings \kill the boer\ to these savages!

  • Thobile Lugwadu - 2012-08-14 20:24

Since all farm attacks victims are mostly whites and the pepertrators are mostly black, the solution lies along the racial lines. In most instances the attackers are known to the victims. These attacks will never stop up until we properly research them, find solutions and implement them. Although farmers may be percieved as easy targets by robbers, it can be extremely dangerous to tresspass in a farm, not knowing all the exit points, in case things dont go according to plan. I urge my fellow countrymen to live in peace and farm as a team. Both experienced farmers and productive farm workers are desperately needed in our food chain.

  • Zahir - 2012-08-15 07:27

Anc can provide more protection to farmers but they look the other way and its part of there plan

  • theuns.vanrensburg.77 - 2012-08-15 09:59

4000 White farmers killed (excluding a couple of thousand non-farmers)since Mandela was released. And now that an American gets a couple of scrapes and cuts they want to stop investments!

  • cirrus11 - 2012-08-15 21:35

Why does blacks always have to react with violence. Is there such a great difference in culture of westerners and Africans? We never see such action from people of western culture is this land. Or is there something or someone behind this violence that we do not(want to) see.
