Union targets Sun resorts

Cape Town - Union Saccawu says it is to hold marches and "mass pickets" at Sun International's Sun City and Wild Coast resorts on Thursday.

It said on Tuesday it had also begun mobilising local and international support for a boycott of Sun International.

Members of Saccawu - the SA Clothing Catering and Allied Workers' Union - are on strike at Sun resorts demanding an across-the-board 13% pay hike and changes to working conditions.

Thursday's action would be part of the union's campaign to "intensify pressure on management to negotiate in good faith", the union said.

It said Sun International's chief executive, David Coutts-Trotter, had gone on vacation.

Doing this while the company was faced with the biggest strike at Sun International in recent times was an example of the company's "disdain and arrogance".
