Use less milk, SABC staff told

Cape Town – The SABC is reportedly asking its employees to drink less milk in their tea and coffee as part of a cost-cutting effort.

According to TVSA, the broadcaster has been circulating e-mails asking that employees make an effort to save where they can and use less milk, but employees say that "SABC management has Nescafe Gold and biscuits".

The e-mail also says employees will in future be charged for phone calls and internet usage if these exceed a certain monthly limit.

In a presentation to Parliament's communications portfolio committee, SABC executives indicated that one of the cost-cutting measures being implemented to save the SABC from financial ruin, is the lowering of telephone costs.

"We're all being told to try and save where we can," an SABC employee who preferred to remain anonymous told Die Burger on Tuesday. In internal e-mails the SABC always refers to its employees as "First citizens" in true Roman Empire style.
