Varsity gets 3rd bomb threat in 6 weeks
Cape Town - The University of Stellenbosch has had its third bomb threat in about six weeks – disturbing classes and causing widespread disruption.
Die Burger reported that the JC Smuts building in Merriman Street had to be evacuated on Monday afternoon after a bomb threat was received.
Staff and students were immediately evacuated.
Police arrived soon afterwards and the area was declared to be safe at about 15:25.
It was not clear if police found anything in their search of the premises.
A university spokesperson said bomb threats were seen in a very serious light.
Anyone with more information was asked to contact security on campus or call 021 8082330.
The university also received two bomb threats on 1 March this year, causing evacuations and disruption of classes.
