Johannesburg - Seven veldfires have been reported in Mpumalanga, an official said on Tuesday.

Co-operative governance spokesperson Simphiwe Kunene said five of the fires were in the Lowveld and the other two in the Highveld.

"The fires are under control and are being monitored by disaster management teams," said Kunene.

"Eight fire management aircraft and two teams [have been] deployed while twenty-one aircraft and fifteen teams are on high alert."

The only damage reported thus far had been to forestry.

The department called on all municipalities and locals to be on full alert.

Residents of Gert Sibande region as well as the Nkangala districts were told to expect cold weather conditions, with possible snowfalls.

Where the hell is the "Gert Sibande" and "Nkangala" municipalities? Can you report the names of the nearby towns, that way we might be able to understand where these fires took place. Seriously, who goes around reporting their whereabouts by randomly named municipalities instead of towns or cities?
