Thabamoopo, Limpopo - A couple were attacked by family members in Mogodi Village in the Lebowa-Kgomo area in Limpopo on Wednesday, police reported.
Captain Mohale Ramatseba said police were investigating two counts of attempted murder, arson and malicious damage to property. They had arrested the man's sister, a 38-year-old woman.
A relative doused the man with petrol and set him on fire. He was also assaulted and hit with various instruments. He sustained serious injuries.
The woman was assaulted and stabbed. Both were admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
The attackers also burnt the couple's room and the woman's furniture which was kept in a nearby house.
The woman's husband died two months ago and she moved in with her new boyfriend immediately after the funeral.
The man's family opposed the relationship and he had sought a protection order preventing his relatives from evicting him.
