'Very dangerous' prisoners on the run

2011-11-08 14:25

Johannesburg - Five "very dangerous" prisoners have escaped from the Ottoshoop police station, near Zeerust, North West police said on Tuesday.

It was believed the five used a knife to cut through the roof of the prisoners' exercise room on Sunday at 16:30, Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said in a statement.

"The suspects are aged between 25 and 30 and were arrested for cases of robbery with aggravating circumstances, arson, assault and housebreaking.

"Police are warning the community members not to try and arrest these five thugs as they are very dangerous, but rather to report them to the nearest police if they come across them."

Ngubane said North West police would "not hesitate to take steps", if police negligence contributed to the escape.

Who searched them? Maybe they were given knives and forks to eat with. Mmmm, maybe someone forgot to take the cutlery away????

      Theresa - 2011-11-08 14:54

Methinks you need a bloody large knife to cut through a roof.

ah thats okay, think we are used to it by now

  • Hannetjie - 2011-11-08 15:38

So how come 'very dangerous' prisoners are left unguarded and for such a long period that they could escape? This just shows that the level of policing is atrocious - is this because we now have a police SERVICE and not a police FORCE?

They have just come to join the other milllion or 2 out here. Wonder how much they paid the warder for the knife?

  • 01ndivhu - 2011-11-08 17:46

How do we know them without their pictures published, SAPS, their pictures should have been everywhere, including TV.

      Shirley - 2011-11-08 18:07

      The cops probably dont either!

  • magnus.ukpong - 2011-11-08 18:24

Guys it is not hard to figure this out - the same tokoloshes that make case-dockets to disappear at Police Stations also provided the prisoners with knives to cut through the roof of their exercise room.

  • theo.prinse - 2011-11-09 01:09
