'Very dangerous' prisoners on the run

2011-11-08 14:25
Johannesburg - Five "very dangerous" prisoners have escaped from the Ottoshoop police station, near Zeerust, North West police said on Tuesday.

It was believed the five used a knife to cut through the roof of the prisoners' exercise room on Sunday at 16:30, Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said in a statement.

"The suspects are aged between 25 and 30 and were arrested for cases of robbery with aggravating circumstances, arson, assault and housebreaking.

"Police are warning the community members not to try and arrest these five thugs as they are very dangerous, but rather to report them to the nearest police if they come across them."

Ngubane said North West police would "not hesitate to take steps", if police negligence contributed to the escape.
