Violence following Joburg evictions

2012-06-27 10:16

Johannesburg - Police and informal residents clashed in Marlboro, Johannesburg, during evictions on Wednesday, Johannesburg metro police said.

"Metro police were in the process of removing shack dwellers along municipal owned land on Fifth Avenue. They were attacked and shot at," said chief superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

"It was live ammunition that was used and a metro police car was torched."

He said the police had brought the situation under control and that all was quiet by 08:00.

I don't understand ...... wasn't the President only yesterday speaking about land redistribution? Seems the municipality didn't listen in.

@Scouter - i agree, but it's funny hey when they poor blacks invade state owned land the get evicted by the police. What will happen if the poor invade our land like Lamola is suggesting? Should we shoot too kill or pat them on the shoulder and tell them it's fine the can come and have more babies on our property.

If they have to evict these poor people why don't they do it during the summer and not in the dead of night in the coldest part of winter? It's always the same! I couldn't sleep at night if took part in that. Yes, they definitely have to be moved, but isn't there a more compassionate way?

Where do they go after they have been evicted? During this cold cold winter? Where do they go?
