Violent metro cops still on duty

2012-04-30 08:33

Johannesburg - Four Johannesburg metro police officers caught on video assaulting a Midrand-based hawker are still on duty, the Citizen newspaper reported on Monday.

Metro police spokesperson Superintendent Wayne Minnaar confirmed this to the publication, but stressed that it did not condone assault by its officers.

Andries Ndlovu, 37, was beaten in Ivory Park, near Midrand, last Friday, apparently after he tried to stop the officers from beating a 60-year-old man.

A 22-second cellphone video of the attack was recorded by an onlooker.

The Sunday Times reported that officers could be seen kicking and stamping on Ndlovu after he had fallen down.

The officers allegedly beat up a 60-year-old welder, Joseph Khumalo, when he demanded a receipt or notice when his goods were impounded. Ndlovu asked the officers why they were assaulting Khumalo. He was punched in his face, and started to fight back.

Khumalo's two sons, Ananias and Michael, said they were also assaulted.

The fine Bees Roux got should be paid out of the Metro pension fund as a token of our appreciation for ridding the country of one of these idiots!

This is nothing compared to a young girl who was beaten with button sticks by the same cops while trying to flee with her mother's veggies and fruits stock by Spar Ebony Park. She was traumatised and after the GP's report it has been said that her vetebral parts were severely damaged. The same cops are still on duty though...TYPICAL isn't it?

      Patsy - 2012-04-30 12:56

BLOODY DISGUSTING!!!! No wonder there is so much crime when certain cops set a bad example and don't get punished for it

  • Matthew.and.Denise - 2012-04-30 09:04

And then the government wonders why so many cops get shot by civilians!

Acting like the Gestapo! If they have been identified, suspend them immediately without pay, investigate the matter. If found guilty, charge them with assault and lock them up. If not guilty, re-instate them. Minnaar should also be investigated for lying. The cops were assaulted according to him. He should ascertain the correct facts before blabbing his mouth off in front of a TV camera!

So far we have heared the suspect's version of the story. Just imagine 4 grown sober men of the law joined together in conspiracy 2 assault for nothing. absurd!!! I smell a rat. The assaulted deserve every bit of discomfort they attained

      Pamela - 2012-04-30 09:53

Ndumiso i'm sorry to say this, but you are an idiot hey!!! Do you even watch the news? Do you see how many cops have been doing this lately? Even if there is one side of the story, the cops should not be associated with such rumours AT ALL!!! They are here to serve and protect. I think i agree with Leonard, you probarbly working for the GVT of ZUMA. SUCH IDIOTS ON A BLUE MONDAY SHOULD BE RESTRICTED!!!!

      Anthony - 2012-04-30 11:05

The cops have no right to beat a person in the street, they can arrest the person and leave it to the court to decide the punishment. Citizens also have the right to question an action without be submitted to violent action. Your comments are inflammatory.

      Jacqui - 2012-04-30 12:11

Ndumiso, so you feel it is fine for policmen to act as if they are the law?.

  • Allan - 2012-04-30 09:15

What makes it worse is that these hooligans, they call cops, have side arms!

They where all trained at Douglasdale Police Station.

  • lovenergy - 2012-04-30 10:58

Why are we the public allowing this?! Because we have sat by for too long blind, deaf and dumb allowing our politicians and cops to terrorize and rule us. Nothing has been done to these cops! They attacked a 60 year old man for trying to ensure that he would get the little possessions back that feeds his family every month! He is trying to work to better his life and once again our PIGS stand in the way of our rights. This pot is going to boil over soon and I heard there's a pig roast in the pipe line. Can you smell the African Spring coming?

  • VWhitepaw - 2012-04-30 11:09

They where doing there duty... they are a law onto their own... Wait... that's not right. They must do there duty within the confines of the law. I wish. Police should obey the same laws they are enforcing. This is just another example of assault. There is speeding, skipping robots/traffic signs, talking on cellphones and the list goes on. The traffic offences I refer to above is not when they apparently are responding to a call.

  • Donald - 2012-04-30 11:17

So if I shoot one of them I hope they will treat it the same. they are a law unto themselves. They must really try this BS with me. only in South Africa......

  • Jacqui - 2012-04-30 12:09

What dp you expect?. Thay are brothers and thus can do as they like. Imagine if they were white. Our African friends here would have a field day.

  • ludlowdj - 2012-04-30 12:25

Cops are unfortunately not trust worthy pity the old man never had enough support to teach these animals a proper lesson in respect.

  • patsy.smith.125 - 2013-02-23 08:45

What the hell is happening in this country when the police act like the ctiminals they're supposed to be catching??? Why the hell haven't they been suspended at the very least? Why the hell haven't they been had up for assault and put in jail? How do some of the people get away with this sort of criminality and others get punished? Total BS!!!
