Walkers remember Leigh

Johannesburg - An eerie silence fell as thousands of Johannesburgers commemorated the life of kidnap victim Leigh Matthews and other crime victims before completing a 10km walk on Sunday.
The crowd walking to celebrate 10 years of democracy in Radio 702's Walk the Talk event was festive. The mood changed to sombre and still as they held a minute's silence for Matthews, whose body was found this week.
A surge of energy followed as the thousands of walkers hit the streets around the Wanderers stadium in Johannesburg's northern suburbs.
Poodles and pushchairs, a Pekinese being pulled in a chariot by a staffie, and about 25 000 humans took part in the event.
Besides the 10km walk for democracy, there were a five kilometre, a 21km and 42km walk.
The walk, now in its fifth year, is organised by radio station 702 Talk Radio and endorsed by the City of Johannesburg.
