Warrant of arrest for prisons boss

2012-07-20 10:05

Durban - A warrant of arrest was issued for a senior correctional services official who failed to appear in the KwaZulu-Natal High Court to explain why awaiting-trial prisoners were brought in late, The Witness reported on Friday.

Judge Themba Sishi launched an inquiry after repeated delays in the arrival of 18 accused.

These include the murder of bank manager Thembinkosi Mbatha during an armed robbery at the Hluhluwe First National Bank in Zululand on May 31 last year.

State advocate Dorian Paver told the judge on Thursday that Nompumelelo Radebe was aware she had been ordered to appear before the court.

The court also instructed the head of New Prison to appear before the inquiry.
