Warrant out for mayor's arrest

George - The George Magistrate's Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of Eden District Municipality's Mayor Adolph "Rudi" Laws, the SABC reported on Monday.

According to the broadcaster Laws failed to appear in court on Monday on charges of drunken driving.

Laws is alleged to have committed the offence - in which two people were injured - in George on April 5 earlier this year.

Police spokesperson Inspector Dolly Subramoney told the SABC that Laws would be given 14 days to explain his absence.

Failure to do so would result in the warrant being activated.
