Water restored in Tshwane CBD

2011-04-07 11:54
Johannesburg - Water supply has been fully restored in the Tshwane CBD on Thursday, the city said.

"The CBD, together with parts of the western side up to the railway line, were briefly without water on Wednesday morning after a pipe on the corner of Boom Street and Dr Savage Avenue was damaged, apparently by a contractor working for one of the telecommunications companies," spokesperson Console Tleane said.

Repairs were completed before noon on Wednesday and water supply was restored.

"However, because bulk water needs a lot of pressure it took sometime before adequate pressure could build up to ensure supply.

"By Wednesday afternoon water was coming out, albeit slowly," he said.

The situation improved by Thursday morning with enough pressure having built up.

The city hoped that full pressure would be restored by midday.
