Pretoria - The Waterkloof Four were released on parole on Tuesday after serving half their sentences, Beeld reported.

Christoff Becker, Reinach Tiedt, Gert van Schalkwyk and Frikkie du Preez were each sentenced to 12 years in prison in January 2007 for murdering a homeless man in 2001.

Early on Tuesday morning, a bulky Becker and Du Preez were photographed outside the department of correctional services in Pretoria.

The department said in January that legislation states that when an offender completes 50% of their jail term, they can be considered for parole on condition that they completed internal correctional programmes and are well behaved.

Last year, the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria ordered Tiedt and Van Schalkwyk back to prison after they were released under correctional supervision.
