Weather warning for Cape provinces

2011-06-18 14:34
Cape Town - Western and Eastern Cape residents need to be prepared as gale force winds of 65 km per hour and heavy rain are expected in the coastline over the next week, the South African Weather Service said on Saturday.

"The winds will extend eastwards to Port Elizabeth along the entire south-western and southern coastline by tomorrow," forecaster Ezekial Sebego said.

Waves between four and six metres were expected between Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay .

"The winds will eventually moderate near Port Elizabeth on Monday," Sebego said. Heavy rains were also expected in the Cape Peninsula, the Winelands and the Overberg on Wednesday and Thursday.

Five people died following heavy rain and flooding in the Eastern Cape last week.
