Johannesburg - No arrests had been made by Friday
afternoon after a man was stoned to death in Florida on the West Rand, police
said.
Police spokesperson Lydia Mtila-Dikolomela said the
murder investigation was continuing.
The man, 23, was talking on a cellphone while driving
with the vehicle's window down on Wednesday night.
Mtila-Dikolomela said someone snatched the phone. It was
not clear whether this happened at a traffic light.
The man apparently stopped his car and chased after the
robber, while his woman passenger alerted the police.
The passenger saw two other men following the man as he
was chasing the one who took the phone.
The man was later found lying on the side of the road,
half-naked. Stones were strewn around his body, and some were on his body.
Clothing stripped from his body was found near him. The
man was declared dead on the scene.
A cellphone believed to belong to one of the assailants
was found on the scene.
