Cape Town - Residents of the Western Cape can expect a day or two of relief from the cold, wet weather that has gripped the province over the past few days.

Die Burger reported that more cold weather was expected over the weekend.

The coldest place over the past weekend was Ceres, where 8°C was measured on Saturday.

From Thursday night and Friday, very cold and wet conditions will hit, particularly in the eastern parts of the province.

Meanwhile, the newspaper also reported that participants in this year’s Berg River Canoe Marathon would have to battle a very full and active river.

The annual canoe marathon begins in Paarl on Wednesday and an organiser said the river was very full due to the heavy rains of the past week.

This meant that participants should exercise caution and might have to tackle the river differently from previous years, said organiser André Collins.
