Whale carcass washes up in Sea Point

Cape Town - A decomposing whale carcass has washed ashore in Sea Point, the City of Cape Town said on Wednesday.

The City warned those surfing, surf-skiing or kayaking in the Sea Point area that blubber coming from the carcass may attract ocean predators into the area.

"The City therefore recommends that water users use alternative sites for today [Wednesday] and that they exercise caution over the next week due to the residue left from the whale."

The carcass ashore near Rocklands Beach would be removed later on Wednesday morning.

"Due to the difficult location of the carcass as well as tidal factors, the City's solid waste management department will only attempt to remove the carcass later this morning," it said.
