What Hlophe allegedly said...

Johannesburg - Cape Judge John Hlophe allegedly told a Constitutional Court Judge that he was "our last hope" when he allegedly tried to influence him into favouring African National Congress President Jacob Zuma in his upcoming case, the Business Day reported on Thursday.

The Business Day reported that this allegation was made in Chief Justice Pius Langa's submission, made on behalf of all the Constitutional Court Judges to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The newspaper reports that the full text of the complaint sets out the Constitutional Court Judges case against Hlophe whom they say tried to influence two other judges.

Business Day said it was in possession of documents that detailed Chief Justice Langa's submission.

"Sesithembele kinina (you are our last hope)" Hlophe is alleged to have said to Acting Judge Chris Jafta, the newspaper reported.

The newspaper reported that Hlophe approached Jafta at the end of March and Nkabinde on April 23 2008.

In Hlophe's meeting with Jafta it was alleged that he told her "he had a mandate to act as he was doing," and that the "privilege issue" in the Zuma cases "had to be decided properly," Business Day reported.

JR.lenoir says... @Dewald, I am a geologist (been one for nearly 13 years now). I'm well-aware what the distinctions are between palaeontology and archaeology are. Both of which I have an interest in. When people use palaeontology to describe archaeology, it absolutely baffles my mind. It's like saying a civil engineer is a mechanical engineer. There's certainly overlap in geochemical techniques, but the two disciplines focus on very different elements of our natural history. In a nutshell (and heavily simplified) for those who are unaware, palaeontology deals with the evolution of natural life on this planet. Archaeology deals with the pre-history of our species, how we became to be human, prior to recording our history. Read the article...
