Pretoria - Security remained tight at the Pretoria hospital where former President Nelson Mandela spent the fifth day being visited by relatives.

Mandela’s grandchildren Ndaba, Zenani, Mandla, and wife Graça Machel arrived an hour apart to visit the ailing statesman.

Madiba was admitted to hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning because of a recurring lung infection.

Mandla arrived in a black SUV followed by Machel, who was in a black Mercedez-Benz and walked into the hospital.

Mandla briefly addressed the media as he left his grandfather’s Houghton home in Johannesburg to let them know he was on his way to visit Mandela.

They are among a number of relatives who are visiting Mandela who is in a “serious but stable condition”, according to the presidency.

Yesterday, President Jacob Zuma said he received a briefing from the medical team treating Mandela and said he was satisfied everything was being done to give him the best care possible.

A media contingent remained rooted around the clock outside the hospital to get a glimpse of visitors at the Pretoria hospital.

Mandela has been in and out of hospital in the past few years. At the end of March and in April this year he spent nine days in hospital receiving treatment for recurring lung problems.
