Bushbuckridge - A trip to the shops to buy a present for his wife turned out to be a bad choice for a man whose wife decided to leave him while he was out.
A husband went to buy his wife a present on Reconciliation Day, only to return and find she had moved out and left him and their four children.
Norman Mhlanga, 58, of Section C in Thulamahashe in Mpumalanga, who works as a security officer at the Mhala Magistrate's Court, said he wanted to surprise his wife as part of the December 16 Reconciliation Day public holiday.
"But when I returned, she was not home," he said.
He said people drinking at the nearby bar lounge told him that his wife had left with a man in a white bakkie.
"I nearly died to hear that. The man had been her lover for a long time, but she had promised to stop cheating and I took her back because she is the mother of my children," he said.
He said he had first caught his wife sleeping with the man in November 2006.
"I caught her red-handed with this man on my sponge mattress," he said.
Afterwards, he and his family moved to a new house, but his wife continued to cheat on him.
"Now I have to do all the cooking and washing as she does not phone us or come home," he said.
